Facts about the hunt
Mid-November to February 28.
Take a flight to Calgary Airport. Then you have a 3-5 hour drive, depending on which preserve the hunt i carried out in.
We hunt in snow, and preferably in newly fallen snow, and use dogs for tracking. We drive in pickup trucks, ATVs and snowmobiles and search for new tracks. The tracks are carefully examined to determine both gender and size. If the cat is huntable, the dogs are set on the trail.
The guides have a long-standing experience in puma hunting, which ensures a high success rate. Their well-trained dogs almost always manage to "tree" the puma at some point (that is, the puma climbs up a tree).
This is a form of hunting in which the vast majority of hunters can participate. Typically, a puma does not jump down when it is in the tree, giving the hunter the time necessary to get there. Depending on this, the hunt may be super easy or require effort, but once you're standing with your dream trophy, it's worth the effort.
The puma preserve
Our two preserves are located in the magnificent Canadian scenery with the Rocky Mountains practically in the backyard. Both preserves are very large, and our outfitter has the exclusive hunting rights in these areas. There are plenty of whitetail, moose, mule deer and elk, which are the puma’s preferred prey. In addition, there are large populations of black bear, grizzly, lynx, bobcat and mountain goat.
We stay in well-equipped cabins in the preserve, where all dining and catering takes place.
At the customer's request, hotel accommodation can also be arranged at an additional cost. Contact us to hear more about this.
Puma / Mountain Lion / Cougar
The puma is an impressive animal to hunt – it is crafty, shy, agile and not least quite a total powerhouse. A large male puma often weighs more than 80 kg, and very large specimens of more than 100 kg have been seen and shot. Males can grow to more than 2.6 metres in length, including the tail. Females are slightly smaller. The puma runs at speeds of up to 50 km/h, the same as a black bear. The puma can jump an impressive six metres from a standing position, and 2.5 metres into the air.
You can combine the puma hunt with hunting for lynx, wolf, bobcat and coyote
We highly recommend that you visit the Rocky Mountains National Park on your trip – this is an experience of a lifetime.
If you are into skiing, there is about two hours' drive from our hunting preserve to a large Canadian ski resort called Sunshine Villages – there are actually several ski resorts nearby. If you like skiing, this is "a must." Who wouldn't want to go skiing in the Rockies?
In addition, there are good opportunities to make a bargain in one of the many big hunting stores or clothing outlets in major cities like Edmonton and Calgary.
