Hunting season

This hunting trip includes seven full days plus hunting license for wolf and coyote, if you are lucky enough to run into these two species. The hunter stays in a tent camp in the hunting preserve.

We recommend the very exciting rut hunt for moose, which starts at the end of September and continues halfway into the month of October. In addition, we also recommend moose hunting at the end of November. At this point, the males gather, and should you happen upon such a herd of bulls, it is often the largest moose that is brought down. But nothing beats the rut hunt, where you can call in the mighty moose to a very close range, making it super intense and exciting. Very suitable for both bow and rifle hunting.

Best time for moose hunting:

  • Rut hunt from approx. 24 September to 15 October.

  • Throughout November.

On this hunt, we set out before sunrise in pickup trucks/ATVs. We drive around looking for tracks, and try to call in moose. This is done most effectively from a high place in order for the call to reach as far as possible. If a moose or clear tracks have been spotted, we often spend some time trying to locate it, otherwise we will continue to call, and finally we drive back to check up on the other places we have called. The hunt ends when it gets dark. It is not rare to see coyote and wolves on such hunts, but it is always a free bonus.

Camp

We sleep in a large shared tent with wood-burning stove/gas heating and folding beds.

At the customer's request, hotel/motel accommodation can also be arranged at an additional cost. Alternatively, the customer can rent a camper and have all the amenities in the camp.

Western Canadian Moose

Let 4Hunt guide you in your hunt for the Western Canadian Moose. This is the second largest moose of the four huntable Canadian species. The Western Moose is second only to the size of the Alaska Moose, which can be hunted to a completely different price.

The Western Moose is a magnificent large animal with a shoulder height of about two metres and a weight of up to +700 kg. If you are lucky enough to take down a capital bull, the trophies can achieve the impressive size of plus 60". “I myself have seen a brought down moose at no less than 61.5" from this area back in 2012," says Lars Buchard. Usually the size of the trophies is between 40" - 55".

The trip - Airport

4Hunt recommends that you fly either to Calgary or Edmonton.

If you like sightseeing, and if you want to see and experience the magnificent scenery of the Rocky Mountains and explore Canada, it doesn't matter which of these airports you choose. Both Calgary and Edmonton are exciting big cities.

If you are only interested in the hunt, we recommend that you fly directly to Edmonton. This will give you the shortest route to our hunting grounds up north. The drive to our preserves takes about 6-6.5 hours, going north from Edmonton

Useful tips

We highly recommend that you visit the Rocky Mountains National Park on your trip – this is an experience of a lifetime.

In addition, there are good opportunities to make a bargain in one of the many big hunting stores or clothing outlets in major cities like Edmonton and Calgary.
